While using the hydraulic regeneration system the mechanical or exhaust brakes can be added to the braking force to quicken deceleration. In power regeneration programs they work together. Tail shaft drop box regeneration systems, such as EATON HLA, have one advantage as they are an analogue system – i.e. It is infinitely variable to adjust the braking power and is smooth.
The Mathers FSV (Fuel Saving Vane Pump) is a vane pump with the feature of being able to be turned on and off. This is achieved by restraining the vanes to prevent any formation of a pumping chamber between them as shown below. The FSV has been awarded the Queensland Engineering Excellence Award for Sustainability.
The Hydro Mechanical Transmission (HMT) incorporated into a gearbox opens up significant advantages. With this technology added, the gearbox can be designed to offer:
- Wind Turbines
- Commerical vehicles
- a non – burnout clutch;
- variable gear ratios;
- hydraulic regeneration at any road speed;
- auxiliary drives for compressors or alternators etc.
